Protesting against what they are calling as retrograde 7th Pay Commission recommendations for nurses, the All India Government Nurses Federation has announced that they will start a relay hunger strike from January 12.
“The relay hunger strike will be held at Jantar Mantar where nurses from all hospitals will sit every day on hunger strike against the retrograded commission recommendations. The hunger strike will last for 15 days. We have planned that on January 26 nurses across India will be on mass casual leave so that pressure will be created on the government to change the recommendations for nursing cadre,” said All India Govt Nurses Federation’s Anilkumar Bhosale.
The Federation in its release has noted that nurses from various parts of the country will gather in support of the hunger strike at Jantar Mantar.
“If the government fails to take any action then the nurses will give notice of indefinite strike from March 15 and if this strike occurs then it will be the government’s responsibility for any impairment / loss in the health services of the country due to nurses’ strike,’’ noted the release.
In Delhi, hospitals including Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital Nurses Association, Govind Vallabh Pant (GB PANT ) Hospital, Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital Nurses Association, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Hospital Nurses Association, New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) Hospital Nurses Association, Lady Harding Medical College Nurses Association, Nurses Association Kalawati Saran hospital, Dr Hedgewar Hospital Nurses Association, RBT Hospital Nurses Association, Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital Nurses Association, Public Health Nurses of MCD and Delhi Government and All India Institute of Medical Sciences ( AIIMS) Nurses Association have extended their support to the strike call.
