Teachers protest, demand 7th pay panel benefits

The local unit of Punjab and Chandigarh teachers union on Monday held a candlelight march at Bhandri Bridge.

Teachers from Amritsar and Tarn Taran colleges were protesting against the state government for not issuing notification of the Seventh Pay Commission recommendations as announced by the UGC.

Dr BB Yadav, district president of the union, said, “The Punjab government is not serious about issuing a notification whereas Haryana government has notified the recommendations. We also demand that college teachers must be recruited with pension scheme so that one can avail of facilities provided to government teachers.”

Dr Seema Jaitley, said, “The government should regularise the services of 1,925 teachers for a better future.”

Teachers from Khalsa Colllege, DAV College, BBK DAV College for Women, Hindu College and others were present.
